I find testimonies quite funny. However, if you were to ask me, as I said to her daughters - your mum is a frickin genius!!!
The way Carmela connects technical aspects, the breath, our instincts and spirit, is like no other. Her understanding of how everything is connected and how simple yet effective, one exercise/tool can be, is one of her many superpowers. Trusting her process and just leaning into it has been the best thing for me.
Unlike most “teachers” Carmela is very adamant on not letting you judge yourself when working out new or different ways to approach things.
All in all Carmela has an incredible holistic approach. Technically an expert whilst nurturing the energy and spirit that goes with making it all work and connect together. Her intuition for what is needed specifically for you and specifically for that day, makes anything daunting about singing, just melt away.

Carmela works tirelessly to cater to her students. As her daughter I also see the behind the scenes of how much care and effort goes into each individual student, and how the efficiency of anyone’s unique voice is championed - rather than aiming for one stock standard sound. She is a passionate teacher who will work WITH her students rather than at them, trying multiple ways to get to the destination until the way that suits the student is revealed. She is respectful and kind, and treats everyone fairly and equally. She is so incredibly knowledgeable of the physical aspects of the voice and the body, and I really respond to how much her training includes the whole body and mind. We have worked together for many years and I have felt my instrument blossom under her care and guidance. She is a wonderful and funny woman on top of all this, and I could not recommend her as a teacher more. I guarantee you will walk out smiling or laughing, she truly is someone you want on your team.

Whenever someone hears me sing and immediately asks who my teacher is, I always say Carmela is nothing short of a vocal genius! She has guided me for many years, through early vocal health issues (that she solved to the surprise of my ENT!), my studies, intense rehearsal periods, and my move to Europe. Her wisdom, training, and experience (both as a teacher and a performer) have helped me to avoid the many pitfalls in this career and throughout it all has kept my voice healthy and vibrant. I'm often told I am lucky to have 'such a natural instrument'... but they don't realise it is all Carmela! I now study with her online from Berlin because I have not found another teacher in Europe or the U.S. that compares to the wonderful results we achieve together. Vocal freedom, beauty, and ease are always the first priority, and her holistic method and incredible ears have guided me to my most happy and authentic voice time and time again. I really appreciate how large her toolbox is, and her approach always feels tailored to my specific voice and mind rather than 'one-size-fits-all'. Our lessons are full of warmth, empathy, and positive energy, and she has always been my biggest support.

Carmela has made my singing journey truly exciting and profound. I recently described Carmela’s lessons to a friend as being like some grand murder mystery, with all of the elements, plot twists and characters tying together in the most satisfying resolution at the close of each lesson. But simply, Carmela has brought joy back into a practice I had lost some love for. She encourages and challenges me moment to moment and her passion is infectious. If you are considering having lessons with Carmela, I would advise you to just go for it. You will be grateful for her warmth and wisdom.

I have had the absolute pleasure attending singing lessons with Carmela for several years now. Carmela has not only helped me to find my ‘true voice’ and put an end to bad habits I didn’t even know I had, but has fostered a belief in myself as a singer and a performer. Not only is Carmela a gifted performer herself, she never stops training and learning to find new and improved techniques in vocal health to best support her students. She is warm, kind, approachable and able to explain rather difficult concepts in often fun and unique ways, which somehow always work! She is able to help all singers whether they are professional or not, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre classical, the list goes on… Carmela is truly a one of kind that you will not find elsewhere.

Having seen a few different teachers in my singing career, I can safely say that Carmela is, without hyperbole, the best voice coach you could hope to have.
Where many coaches attempt to shoehorn students into their pre-concieved, rigid mold of the "correct" way to sing, Carmela takes a great personal interest in every one of her students, working with them to create individualised programs specially tuned to their voice. There is never any pressure to conform to a set style either. You do not learn simply to be a classical, jazz or musical theatre singer. You learn how to grow and maintain your instrument, and how to use it in whatever way you want: a singer in its truest sense.
Beyond her borderline magical abilities as a teacher, Carmela is simply a lovely human being. She is incredibly kind, warm and welcoming, and always asks how you and your family are and what you've been up to. Her lessons are fun and relaxing, and I find myself rejuvenated - physically, mentally and emotionally - after every class. There is not one ounce of stress to be had in her classes. Music is something to be enjoyed, and Carmela makes it so easy to do so.
Put simply, I could not recommend Carmela enough, and my one regret is that I did not find her sooner!

Carmela met me when I was 16, I was a singer who came to her with almost no voice at all due to losing it completely for a month having gradually lost my range some time before that.. I never thought I would get back to where I was but since seeing Carmela not only has she completely fixed my voice when I tried everything but I have excelled so far from where I started and ever thought I would be and I have learned so many new things about the voice, healthy ways to approach things and what it can achieve (singing isn’t as straight forward as you think!).
Despite being primarily trained in classical for most of her life Carmela knows both classical and musical theatre/contemporary of a higher standard than any vocal coach I’ve ever known. Her room is piled with books and vocal health studies and even though I think she knows everything there is to know about singing she always seems so be studying something more. I cannot stress enough how important it is to find the right singing teacher if you’re an amateur, beginner or even already a professional. There are so many singing teachers who may unintentionally lead you in the wrong direction because they follow a certain technique or for many other reasons but not everyone’s voice fits a certain technique. Carmela works with the singer’s individually and is always able to tell what an individual’s voice needs.

Carmela has helped me so much to open up the sound of my voice and develop the ease with each I use my voice. Since then, my singing confidence has dramatically increased as she leans into your unique and natural voice and how it can sound its best rather than trying to fit into the template of another singer. I love the way she pushes me out of my comfort zone just enough for the level that I'm at to constructively challenge my abilities. The way she combines teaching theory with the application has also been a massive help and makes it clear just how knowledgeable she is in her field. Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to talk their singing to the net level.

Thank you Carmela De Losinno, the loveliest vocal coach, thank you for not trying to change my voice but rather strengthen and celebrate its unique qualities – you truly are a very talented woman

Voice a little tired or croaky? Not a problem, Carmela’s on the case! Trying to reach a note just out of your range? De Losi-no worries, Carmela will get you there! Thinking you need to do a few core strengthening activities? You will walk out of Carmela’s lessons with abs of steal!(but keeping flexible at the same time )
Honestly, I have never had a singing teacher as dedicated and inspiring as Carmela, how she has helped me improve over the past few years is incredible. During VCE, I couldn’t have done my singing performance exam, my school musical or the Victorian State Schools Spectacular without her guidance and support. Her years of experience and knowledge are invaluable and I am always so comfortable in her lessons, experimenting and trying new things with the voice and having some giggles along the way.
Carmela has this unique ability of knowing exactly how to unlock your voice and bring out your full potential, sometimes without you knowing you had it in you, but she always did. It was ridiculous how much I gained just from my first lesson with her, and how simple exercises can make the most drastic difference. I never left a lesson without gaining something from it, even if sometimes I questioned how lying on the ground or wiggling my hips around when I sing could help me, it always led to progress! I could never thank Carmela enough for how much she has taught me, and I know I will continue to learn much more from her in lessons to come.

An Excellent teacher and impressive singer in her own right, Carmela has an ability to establish a warm and comfortable relationship with her students and then tailor her lessons to suit your needs perfectly. I travel 2 hours each way for a lesson with her, that should tell you something. If you have any interest in learning to sing you should at least give her a try, now that you're lucky enough to have heard of her.

Carmela is the best singing teacher I’ve ever had! She is amazing! She has taught me everything from exercises to theory! I recommend her classes for anyone who has a true passion for singing!”
My 11 year old daughter has been having private singing lessons with Carmela for a little over a year. I can't express enough how wonderful Carmela is both as a singing teacher and mentor to my daughter. My daughter loves to sing
and the improvement over that year has been remarkable. Although, my daughter has a long way to go to fulfil her
dream as a singer, I have no doubt that she is in the best hands with Carmela teaching her. Carmela is a beautiful, passionate person who I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn how to sing. Kylie Maltarollo

I have been a professional singer since 1989 and have had a varied and colourful career. From stage musicals to pop, jazz and R and B, I have tried to navigate the required changes in feel and techniques expected for such diversity.
There have been times I've encountered strain and difficulty and it was only since meeting and working with Ms Carmela Delosinno that I feel confident regardless of the state of my instrument.
Carmela understands not only the physical requirements to sing with almost effortless strength...She has a most wholistic approach that ensures your heart, mind and body are working together to unblock restrictions and releaseone's true voice.
I believe in doing and not saying and when Carmela has you in her wise and caring tutelage, she doesn't overwhelm the mind with instructions. Rather, she exercises you through your natural instincts and uncovers any elements (emotional/mental/physical) that are necessary to develop and grow as a vocalist. I would recommend her to any singer in any field of work or study.
Thank you!

Carmela is a sensational singing coach who knows more about learning to sing than just about anyone else.
When things are difficult and the voice is not being as cooperative as I would like, it is really reassuring to knowthat Carmela always has many different methods to tackle any problem that my voice is facing, as well as thenderstanding and patience that are key to helping me learn how to improve it.
I went from being what my friends had no shame in calling a ‘bad singer’ to someone who has passed auditions with professional adult singing groups and is performing on stage with them (more than once with a solo) - and I owe it all to Carmela’s skill, patience, empathy, and, at some points, diligence. I couldn’t ask for a better teacher.
“ Congratulations to Jake whose a cappella group Drums of War won the Australian National title for 2015”.

With Carmela, I learnt how to live in the present. In her class, I always felt living in the moment because that’s the way she teaches too, based on what my voice was doing on that day and at that particular moment. In other words, her teaching is multifaceted. For instance, if approach A didn’t quite do the job, she would have approach B, C etc.
Our lessons were always filled with unlimited possibilities.
With her, I also learnt to trust. I always had faith in her because never did her teaching cause uncomfortable sensation or harm to my voice and cords. To me, everything she teaches is compatible with the natural human body mechanism. More importantly, with her, I developed trust in my voice because singing has become more comfortable and speech-like.
Carmela also taught me that everything is a process. The Voice takes time to grow. With trust and persistence in daily vocalizing, the good habits are reinforced. In short, the process of discovering my voice and its potential with Carmela over the four-year period was a tremendously rewarding and ever-exciting one.
Thanks Carmela!

My name is Reg Ellery and I have been a singer, both in an amateur and professional sense, since 1972. I am now 58. At various times I have studied singing with 4 different teachers. My current teacher is Carmela, and she has been my teacher since 2012.
I am in no doubt that Carmela is the most skilled, knowledgeable and effective teacher I have ever worked with. Her ability to diagnose a problem and then prescribe a solution, that works, is uncanny. Thanks to Carmela, today I am singing better than at any stage in my career. I have no hesitation in recommending Carmela as a teacher, and I have done so on several occasions.

I had taken singing lessons with several teachers before I met Carmela. Right from the start Carmela was able to pin point the areas that I needed to work on and introduced exercises to specifically cater to those needs. By emphasising the importance of not only the basics but an understanding of how your body works when singing, I was able to develop a solid foundation to build upon. As a musical theatre performer, it's been wonderful to be able to focus on songs in this area and use them as exercises to further develop my voice. Carmela is a very positive and supportive teacher and has helped me prepare for many auditions and performances. The lessons are challenging and push me but as a result I've noticed a real improvement in my voice.

I have studied with Ms Carmela de Losinno for six years now and during that time, she has given me the greatest gift imaginable to a singer - confidence in myself and my voice. We met while performing in The Merry Widow together and I was so thrilled by Carmela's own voice that I wanted to learn from her and was delighted that she agreed to teach me.
When I first came to Carmela, I'd been without a voice teacher for over two years. I knew there was something worthwhile in my voice, but it had become overgrown and unwieldy through lack of guidance. Together we worked at stripping back the bad habits I'd developed during that teacher less period and found the core of my sound. Every lesson has been a day of joy and discovery since then. I'm now performing principle roles that I'd always dreamed of doing, most recently as The Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors.
Carmela's teaching blends nurture and technical expertise in a unique way. She knows when I need to be pushed and when I'm ready to take on new challenges, but she also lets me go in my own direction with repertoire when I want to try something different, confident that her teaching has given me the tools to recognise when I'm heading down unhelpful paths. She's helped me be authentic to my own voice whatever I'm singing. I think her most valuable asset as a teacher is her commitment to excellence. Every other lesson she's sharing insights from great coaches she's talked to or conferences she's attended and showing me new additions to her collection of pedagogical texts. These have often given us new tools to unlock different parts of my voice. Perhaps the most important lesson Carmela taught me is the value of my stubbornness. When I'm having a frustrating day vocally, she reminds me how far I've come and how hard I've worked. It always helps me get over those little slumps every student has to be reminded what I've achieved to get where I am now. And a great vocal teacher is as much a counsellor as a coach.

Thank you Carmela for being such an inspirational teacher. Thank you for always supporting me in my dream of being a singer and allowing me to blossom from a young girl to a true performer. Thank you for giving me the tools to expand my thoughts and feelings through sound and opening my heart in this way. You always believed in me even when I didn’t.

I have been learning singing from Carmela for several years and it has been an amazing experience. This is my second attempt to learn singing, after a break of some 40 years, and came about because I returned to amateur musical theatre and realised that I needed help with both technique and extending my bass-baritone range upwards.
Having been a teacher myself and knowing that Carmela had a background in both teaching and music, I was confident that my lessons would go well. I soon realised, however, that teaching singing is unlike the teaching of any other discipline because what we are learning is the manipulation of internal parts of our bodies over which we have limited direct control. To complicate matters further, there is no agreed definition of the vocabulary that we all understand and can act upon.
This is where Carmela’s knowledge and personal experience of learning singing come to the fore. In my early lessons, she would often ask me if I could hear some particular sound or fault in my technique and I would look at herblankly. Unfazed, Carmela would then seek to either demonstrate what she had heard and/or describe it in a different way until I understood. This is the mark of a true teacher and few people have the skills that Carmelabrings to bear in her lessons.
As time went on, Carmela and I established a vocabulary that she knew would elicit the responses she required from me. Needless to say, this means of communication makes for much greater efficiency of learning and satisfaction with the learning process. Two of my adult daughters also take lessons with Carmela and I know from speaking with them that she has particular ways of communicating with each of them that are both personal and meaningful.
In addition to being able communicate her requirements superbly, Carmela has an extraordinarily good ear for picking up and determining the causes of errors or quirks in technique. Combining this with her eagle eye for posture and breathing means that her students receive a complete package of techniques for singing success.
Carmela is, of course, a classically trained singer but she has developed her teaching techniques to include the full range of singing styles that young students require today. When waiting for my own lessons, I have often heard her teaching students modern styles of singing with the same detail and support that she supplies to students learning classical or musical theatre styles.
For those of us who are native speakers of English, Carmela’s Italian background is of immense importance. Whether we like it or not, English vowels and Australian diphthongs just don’t cut it for singing – the Italians have the vowel sounds that give rise to clarity, no matter what size the venue. As well as being fluent in Italian, Carmela has sufficient knowledge of both French and German for those who wish to learn the operatic repertoire, a repertoire with which she has great familiarity.
When it comes to the early training of children, Carmela is just as skillful, careful and sensitive as she is with adults: I know because she also teaches one of my grand-daughters. Carmela is very careful with the young voice to make sure that it is not damaged by an over-abundance of enthusiasm while still ensuring the satisfaction that comes from making progress.
Finally, I would like to comment on the pleasure of learning singing with Carmela. She is always happy to see her students and there are never any histrionics – she is not a temperamental artiste. I always feel a sense of achievement and happiness when I have a lesson and the experience would be worthwhile as a tonic even if I learned nothing about singing, but that is never the case!
